Just Desserts: Nine kidnappers get life sentences

The convicts had kidnapped Haji Gul Zaman and demanded a Rs2.5 million ransom.

RAWALPINDI: A local court on Monday awarded life imprisonment to nine persons including three women in separate cases of kidnapping for ransom.

All nine were also fined Rs100,000 each. In the first case, Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Pervez Ismail Joya awarded life imprisonment to Junaid Iqbal, Bahadur Ali, Syed Baz Muhammad, Hasan Muhammad and Shaheen Bibi.

The convicts had kidnapped Haji Gul Zaman from the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station, Hasanabdal and demanded a Rs2.5 million ransom.

They released the man after the ransom was paid. The same court awarded life imprisonment to six persons including two women in a kidnapping for ransom case.

According to the FIR registered in Attock District by the Rango police, Javed Iqbal, Bahadur Ali, Muhammad Imran, Syed Baz, Palwasha and Shaheen Bibi had kidnapped Muhammad Sadeeq and released him in return for a Rs700,000 ransom.
