FAISALABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday awarded the death sentence to a man on three counts and life imprisonment to his three accomplices for kidnapping and murder. According to the prosecution, Yusuf Shamon and his accomplices Asghar Maseeh, Yusuf Amanuel, Waris and Naseem Bibi had kidnapped nine-year-old Sheraz Bashir on February 15. They demanded a Rs0.5 million ransom for his release. Later, Shamon killed the child. Rajana police investigated the case. ATC Judge Ishtiaque Ahmad awarded Yusuf Shamon a death sentence under Section 302-B of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), 365-A of PPC and 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act (ATA). He is also liable to pay Rs100,000 as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased. The court also ordered the confiscation of his property. The court acquitted Naseem Bibi, giving her the benefit of doubt.
