PESHAWAR:

Following the success of the Dispute Resolution Council’s (DRC) pilot project, councils have also been established in Hazara Division and Peshawar Cantt. These are expected to start functioning by the end of this week.

Initially launched at Gulbahar police station of Peshawar division in January, the project started with the objective to provide a forum for alternate dispute resolution for petty issues in order to avoid an expensive and lengthy legal process.

Comprising 22 members divided into seven panels – up to three members in each – the DRC was mandated with resolution of disputes, fact-finding enquiries and even acting as a jury in some cases.

The members include retired civil and armed forces officers, educationists, businessmen and lawyers.
