BAHAWALPUR: A mother of eight was allegedly raped by six men in Qadirabad village of Uch. Farhan, one of her sons, told the media Sabir, Zahid, Jalal, Baqir, Shehzad and Shahid took Rehana* to an unidentified place and raped her.

They also beat her, he said. He said Sub-Inspector Muhammad Rafiq had initially refused to register a case at the behest of his friend Malik Taj, Shahid’s father-in-law.

Farhan said police had later registered a case on the order of Station House Officer Azhar Javed but had not included Shahid in the first information report (FIR).

He said police had registered the FIR under Sections 354 (assault to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the Pakistan Penal Code and not included clauses related to rape and kidnapping. He appealed to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Inspector General of Police Khan Baig to act against the crooked in Uch police.

The name has been changed to protect identity.

Whose names have been changed for protecting whose identity? I hope names of the victim and not of the perpetrators.
