QUETTA:

In what appears to be a targeted attack, a gunman shot dead a police officer and critically injured his son on Sariab Road Saturday morning.

According to the police, the gunman fired a volley of bullets at the vehicle of ASI Qudratullah, who was going out with his son, near his residence in the Killi Ahmedkhanzai area. The attacker fled the scene with his accomplice who was waiting for him on a motorcycle.

“ASI Qudratullah was in his car along with his son when a man opened fire at him, killing him instantly. His eight-year-old son Mujeeb also sustained bullet wounds,” Asmatullah, a police official at Sariab police station, told The Express Tribune.

The slain officer’s body and his injured son were shifted to the Provincial Sandeman Hospital where medics referred Mujeeb to the Combined Military Hospital for treatment of his critical wounds.

Separately, a gunman shot dead a man, Mumtaz, and his daughter Sania in the Shaldarah area of Kasi Road. “The alleged killer is said to be the son-in-law of Mumtaz,” the police said.

“Adeel had a family dispute with his in-laws for the past few weeks,” Mumtaz’s brother said, blaming him for the double murder. The police have registered a case against Adeel and mounted a manhunt.

In another incident, an Afghan national was gunned down in Satellite Town.

Over 30 Afghan nationals have been killed in targeted attacks in Quetta over the past couple of months.
