Assurance: ‘Government will protect farmers’

The minister said policies and guidelines would be strictly followed.

FAISALABAD: “The district administrations will monitor wheat procurement centres to make sure farmers have no complaints and the procurement remains transparent,” Minister for Food Bilal Yasin said on Friday. He was addressing meeting at the DCO’s office. The minister said policies and guidelines would be strictly followed. The minister said a comprehensive strategy had been evolved to monitor the wheat procurement campaign. He said farmers would be contacted through their cell phones verify bag distribution reports. The minister said the middlemen must be discouraged and wheat be purchased from farmers. The food director told the meeting that a target of 440,000 metric tonnes had been fixed for Faisalabad and badiana distribution would start on April 20. Later, Yasin visited wheat godowns and wheat procurement centres and met with farmers.
