ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain fired Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Chairperson Chaudhry Rashid, Express News reported on Thursday.

A petition against Rashid, which claimed that the former chairman was not appointed on merit, was sent to the PM House and there are also allegations regarding his qualifications.

Earlier this year, a three-member committee was set up to oversee the affairs of the state institution wherein the committee agreed to strip the chairman of his powers.

Members of the committee included Pervez Rathore Abbasi, Israr Abbasi and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Chairperson Ismail Shah.
