KARACHI:

The Pakistan Peoples Party has asked Senator Faisal Raza Abidi to tender his resignation from his senate seat. This is the third time the party has taken disciplinary action against Abidi.

Earlier, Abidi, considered a close aide of PPP leader and former President Asif Ali Zardari, was asked to resign from the position of Karachi division president of the party in July 2012. Later, the party sought his resignation from the senate seat as well, but some PPP leaders intervened.

Talking to The Express Tribune PPP secretary general Latif Khosa said the action has now been taken against Abidi for violating party discipline. Sources privy to the development said that despite many show-cause notices, Abidi did not attend party meetings. “There were serious allegations against him.  The office bearers of PPP Karachi division and Abidi had developed differences,” a senior party leader said.

Despite many attempts, Abidi could not be contacted. Earlier, however, he told The Express Tribune that he resigned from the position of Karachi division president as his doctors advised bed rest; Abidi suffers from liver cirrhosis.
