Procurement: ‘Every grain of wheat to be purchased’

Minister for Special Education Asif Saeed says wheat purchase to start on April 17.

BAHAWALPUR: “The government will purchase every last grain of wheat from farmers and ensure timely payments,” said Minister for Special Education Asif Saeed said on Wednesday. He was addressing a meeting at Rahim Yar Khan DCO’s office. Saeed said the chief minister wanted to ensure that farmers faced no problems. He said public representatives should visit wheat purchase centres and take the necessary steps to resolve any problems reported. He said wheat purchase would start on April 17. He said distribution of gunny bags was underway. Rahim Yar Khan DCO Nabeel Javed said a monitoring system had been put in place to ensure the purchase process was transparent. He said tehsils assistant commissioners would be in charge of wheat purchasing centres. He said a control room had been established at DCO’s office. He directed agriculture EDO to submit documentation of seed companies and documents regarding demand for wheat.
