Changing weather: Science for better water management
Experts note that it is imperative to manage upper Indus basin scientifically.
GILGIT:
The country’s most pressing challenge is the conservation and proper utilisation of water resources and is connected with its survival in terms of food, health and energy security. This was stated at a workshop organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Gilgit-Baltistan forests department at a hotel on Wednesday. The experts noted that since the upper Indus basin serving plains located downstream plays a central role in the country’s water sector and its management predominantly affects the downstream flow, it is imperative to manage it scientifically.
