ISLAMABAD: Former law minister Babar Awan – who is also a practicing lawyer – has requested a three-judge bench of the top court to restore his licence which was suspended on January 17, 2012. Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani asked him to file a formal application for this purpose. Awan said that he has already moved an application today (Monday) seeking early hearing of the case. Upon this, the chief justice said that they would look into the matter. In his application, the former law minister said that he had submitted an unconditional apology before the top court on May 9, 2012. “Two years have passed but the case of the applicant has not been fixed for hearing without any reason. In cases of similar nature in the matters of MQM chief Altaf Hussain, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, incumbent Lahore High Court Bar Association President Shafqat Bhatti and the former Supreme Court Bar Association president, the court decided the matters urgently and the cases of contempt were dropped,” he submitted.
