Tragic loss: Protest against killing of NED lecturer

Acccording to SHO Ghulam Farid, the lecturer was shot by armed robbers and later succumbed to his injuries.

KARACHI: Students and faculty members of the NED University of Engineering and Technology organised a rally to protest the killing of their teacher, Muhammad Yousif, who became yet another victim to the city’s deteriorating law and order situation. Yousaf, a lecturer at the petroleum engineering department for the last seven years, was shot by armed robbers on Saturday and later succumbed to his injuries, acccording to SHO Ghulam Farid.  Students held banners and placards and shouted slogans to ‘stop killing education’, as they gathered at the university’s main gate.  The brother of the deceased, Dr Shahnawaz, explained that Yousif was heading towards Gulshan-e-Hadeed in Muslim coach to meet his sister when he was shot dead. Hailing from Dadu district, he had been residing at the NED University’s staff colony in Karachi. “We had planned his wedding this year in September because he was supposed to leave for Norway for further studies on scholarship,” he told The Express Tribune.
