Police have arrested nine people, including three of their own colleagues, believed to have been involved in a kidnapping incident. Two abducted men were also recovered from the custody of the accused.

Addressing a news conference at Khazana police station on Friday, SSP Operations Najeebur Rehman said the police arrested three police constables and six alleged kidnappers following an encounter in Landi Sarak. The policemen were later identified as Sheryar, a member of the provincial IGP’s security squad, Abdul Manan, a constable at the counter-terrorism department, and Shah Faisal, a jail constable.

Two victims, Ikthiar Shah, a resident of Board Tajabad, and Feroz, a resident of Surizai, were also recovered. They had been abducted some time ago and ransom of Rs20 million each was demanded from their families, informed the SSP. He said it was an important breakthrough and FIRs have been registered against the policemen as well as the alleged kidnappers. Rehman said they were expecting the culprits to provide further leads during interrogation.

“We have also recovered arms and ammunition and the vehicle, a land cruiser, used in the kidnapping incident,” he added.
