KARACHI:

Advocate Syed Ghulam Haider was shot dead in Martin Quarters on Friday. According to the police, the 52-year-old was attending a majlis at Shah Najaf Imambargah, at Martin Road, when two unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at his Suzuki Alto. Haider died on the spot while the assailants managed to escape.

Jamshed Town acting SP Akhtar Farooq told The Express Tribune that they found four 9mm bullet casings at the scene of crime and believe that the suspects also fired several bullets at the gate of the imambargah.

This is the second attack in which a lawyer was targeted, the first being Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawyers’ forum vice-president Syed Waqarul Hassan Shah was shot dead on Rashid Minhas Road on Thursday.

The vice-chairperson of the Pakistan Bar Council Chaudhry Ramzan announced a country-wide lawyers’ strike against the killings. He said the government has failed to provide security to lawyers.

Last September, Naimat Ali Randhawa, who was also the vice president of the PML-N lawyers’ wing, was killed in a similar manner.
