Ali Zafar strikes a new note!

KARACHI: A ‘fake’ scoop, a notorious terrorist and a journalist down on his luck.

That’s the premise for Ali Zafar’s first film, Tere Bin Laden, and if the film’s even half as funny as the trailer is, it should be a hit.

The trailer released this February and within days, it was viewed over 1,700 times. The current view count at YouTube stands at 37,634 and shows Zafar playing an intrepid reporter who tries to ‘create’ the scoop of a lifetime with a fake video of Osama Bin Laden. Produced by the Indian company Walkwater, the film releases on July 16, 2010.

Zafar’s ‘memorable experience’:

“Working with a professional team from Bollywood was a memorable experience,” Ali Zafar told The Daily Express in February. “Everyone is cooperating. Not only does the shooting happen on a schedule, but everyone is also very punctual.”

Zafar mentioned that he had received several offers to work in Bollywood but he couldn’t accept any of them because to his own commitments. “As soon as I was offered a good script I immediately signed it. The messages (in the film) have been delivered in a humorous manner and they will definitely keep the audience engaged.”

Get the story:

“Tere Bin Laden is a tongue-in-cheek comedy about an ambitious young news reporter from Pakistan who is desperate to migrate to the US in pursuit of the American dream. His repeated attempts to immigrate are shot down as his visa is always rejected. But when things couldn’t look worse he comes across an Osama Bin Laden look alike. Ali then hatches a scheme to produce a fake Osama video and sell it to news channel as a breakthrough scoop! Unfortunately there are serious ramifications as the White House gets involved and dispatches an overzealous secret agent on Ali’s trail.”
