The whole trip was arranged by an NGO Azad Foundation. There were no initiative on national or government level. These kids are from Lyari, Karachi, which is known as a football hub in Pakistan. Many of the nation's top players come from the area. Football is so popular that all other activities dip significantly during the FIFA World Cup season.
@Chachoo: These kids are from Lyari, Karachi, which is known as a football hub in Pakistan. Many of the nation's top players come from the area. Football is so popular that all other activities dip significantly during the FIFA World Cup season. From the news, its clear there was no preparations done for the tournament on national level. IThe whole trip was arranged by an NGO Azad Foundation.
@Chachoo: I agree 100% with what you pointed out here, but why don't you demand the same equal representation in the national cricket team and other national sports teams as well. Look at the ethnic composition of our so-called national teams. BTW, this was not an official national team. If it were it would not have Balochs and others in this team.
Instead of cash, these kids should be provided coaching and ground facilities. After some maturity, they should be sent abroad for further training. With cash they will buy cricket kit and would try to become Afridi and that would be the end of their talents.
With regards to Mr. Charlie's comments, ET, it would be great if you could follow-up on this story in a few weeks to see if the players actually got the money they were promised.
@Chachoo: There should be an initiative from the Pakistan sports federation, if it still exists. We need to promote such talent. I am sure KPK can produce quality players, but only if they get a break from the terrorists.
unfortunate to see these very politicians spend so lavishly, in millions, on cultural musical night at mohenjo daro while they have just 2lac for these needy kids! SHAME
Good job kids, we appreciate your talent. Sindh government rightly rewarded them. There is football talent in Lyari which should be encouraged.
200K of taxpayers money will help sleep Sind Govet better at night ?
Does Sindh Govt and GoP resonponsibility end there ?
They will not get a single penny...this is just talk. don't you remember what happened to that snooker champ...he was also promised huge amounts and the result i think was zero.
Would like to see the Sindh government "awarding" the money, rather than just "announcing" it.
The boys played wonderfully and we as a nation should be very proud :)
2 Lacs only, atleast 5 lacs. They are from Zardari far house Liyari and only 2 lacs.
Mr. Middle Class People is right at least give them free education so with education they will help themselves in others things because we only have the biggest scope of Cricket so who asks them again until any other football tournament ?
When the National game Hockey left in shadows over cricket then where these soccer guys will go.
How about the education of other children which are still in the street and havn't participated in the world cup. This is only point scoring
I hope next time there will be more diversity that will encourage the competition as well. Since all players were from Karachi and Baloch community and not a Single player was selected from KPK, Kashmir and Punjab so i think next time the players from those regions should be given representation as well.
wasting our tax payer money again on stupid cricket or cricketers. For god sake save the people of thar first. And if you want to be so generous why don't u pay all these money from your own pocket.
Don't we all have a constitutional right guaranteeing free education until college?
