PBC elects Khalid Ranjha to Judicial Commission

With this induction, the formation of the Judicial Commission for appointment of SC judges is complete.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council nominated Dr Khalid Ranjha on Thursday as their representative in the Judicial Commission, constituted under Article 175-(A) of the Constitution for the appointment of judges in the higher and lower judiciary.

With this induction, the formation of the Judicial Commission for the appointment of Supreme Court judges has been completed.

The meeting of the Pakistan Bar Council was held under the chairmanship of its Vice-Chairman Kazim Khan. Some 20 out of its 21 members participated in the meeting except former president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Qazi Anwar.

For the nomination of Pakistan Bar Council’s representative in the Judicial Commission, the Latif Khosa group proposed the names of Dr Khalid Ranjha, Mian Ashraf Wahla and Mian Israrul Haq. The Hamid Khan group proposed the names of Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim.

During the voting, Ranjha secured 11 votes and Ebrahim collected seven while two members abstained. The election of Ranjha as the Pakistan Bar Council’s representative in the Judicial Commission for a term of two years marks the second loss for the Hamid Khan Group in consecutive days. Ranjha said it was an honour for him to be elected as the first representative of the Pakistan Bar Council.

No BS | 14 years ago | Reply Dr Ranjha was at the forefront for Gen Musharraf when the CJ was removed, he himself was removed from Judicary on corruption charges.......and he will select the future judicary? Why do we as a nation shoot ourselves in the foot and then cry about it

As usually happens in politically motivated contests the best qualified and more erspected contestent lost. well what else do you expect from a nation that re-elects the likes of Jamshed Dasti and Co.
