Reckless driving: Bus accident leaves 44 injured

One of the injured says the bus was loaded with extra baggage on the roof and was being driven recklessly.

At least 44 passengers, most of them industrial workers, were injured when a fully loaded passenger bus fell off a bridge near Hattar Industrial Estate, police and witnesses reported here on Saturday.


One of the injured, Sabir Khan, who is a worker at a manufacturing unit, told the media the bus was on its way from Taxila to Haripur. He said the bus was loaded with extra baggage on the roof and was being driven recklessly.


Sabir added that when the vehicle reached Dohriyan Bridge near Hattar Industrial Estate, it fell off the side of the bridge. A policeman said the bus was carrying 44 passengers, six of whom were critically injured. After the accident, police and rescue workers moved the injured to Women and Children Hospital and Taxila Tehsil Headquarters Hospital while the bus driver was arrested in an injured condition.


Those among the critically injured are Muhammad Sharif, Qamar Bibi, Sania, Shahida, Khanzeb and Amjad Shah.
