PTF Secretary Major Rashid Khan filed a petition on behalf of the federation’s President Dilawar Abbas as it sought permission for the eligibility of elections. “It’s not only a victory for us but for all the other federations,” Khan told The Express Tribune.
“We initiated many projects like the tennis complex in Islamabad which is about to finish and our extended tenure will help us in the completion of these ventures.”
Polls rescheduled to November 26
The PTF has rescheduled the elections which will now be held on November 26 instead of November 20. “The schedule has been changed because the dates were clashing with Eidul Azha,” said Khan.
PTF optimistic on revival of international action
The secretary said the decision by the LHC would also help in revival of international tennis in Pakistan.
“We have been in touch with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and our tenure would ensure smooth negotiation for return of international action to Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, the ITF security officer Ian Todd visited Lahore this week to assess the security situation for possible scheduling of the Davis Cup qualifiers at the venue. The official is expected to submit a report to the ITF in a few days.
“The initial signals received are positive and we are hopeful that international tennis would soon return to the country,” said Khan. Pakistan have been forced to play their home Davis Cup ties at other venues due to reluctance of teams to visit Pakistan due to security concerns.
