PARACHINAR:

A schoolteacher was killed and another tribesman injured by security forces in Alizai area of Kurram Agency on Friday.

An official of the security forces said at around 10:30am a security forces convoy en route to Bagan stopped in front of Alizai District Headquarters Hospital to change a flat tyre when two men identified as schoolteacher Shaban Ali and Kamal Hussain were approaching the convoy from the opposite direction in a car.

The official said the car was signalled to stop and since it did not, they opened fire, killing Shaban on the spot and injuring Kamal. The injured was rushed to Parachinar hospital and is being treated.

The official said the convoy proceeded to Bagan after the incident and later tribesmen from Alizai blocked the road in protest and chanted slogans against army officials, demanding an enquiry into the incident. The road remained blocked for more than two hours after which tribesmen scattered peacefully.
