Directives: Minister asks for best quality seeds

The minister said that more than 50,000 people are dependent on the crop while 1 million are indirectly dependent

PESHAWAR: Federal Minister for Commerce Khuram Dastgir has asked the Pakistan Tobacco Board (PTB) for provision of the best quality tobacco seeds to the farmers, while taking concrete measures for increasing the yield per acre. The federal minister issued these directives during his visit to the office of the PTB on Tuesday. PTB Chairman Azmat Hanif Orakzai, PTB Secretary Asif Khan and other senior officials of the board were also present on the occasion. Orakzai briefed the federal minister of the functions and responsibilities of the board.  The minister further stated that more than 50,000 people are dependent on the crop while 1 million are indirectly dependent. He said that last year’s revenue of Rs77 billion was collected from the tobacco sector under the head of Federal Excise Duty (FED) and Rs36.5 million were earned from commodity’s export.
