All Pakistan Newspapers Society’s (APNS) general council on Monday elected the office bearers of its executive committee for the year 2014-15.
The meeting, held in the APNS House, Karachi, unanimously elected Hameed Haroon as president, Jamil Ather as senior vice president, Umer Mujib Shami as vice president, Sarmad Ali as secretary general, Syed Muhammad Munir Jilani as joint secretary and Waseem Ahmed as finance secretary of the society.
The member also approved the executive committee’s report for the preceding year as well as the annual accounts of the society, said a press release issued to the media.
The members expressed concerns over the non-payment of dues by the Sindh Information Department which had caused acute financial crises for Sindh based publications.
According to the statement, the members also expressed concern over the non-observation of 25% quota for regional publications in release of government advertisements.
“The members observed that the advertisement distribution policy of the Sindh Information is not equitable and is not according to the laid down policy of releasing advertisements to the genuine regional publications,” the council noted.
It also decided to hold a periodical convention in Islamabad in near future.
The general council, attended by 148 members from across the country, formed an election commission – headed by Younus Riaz – which conducted the election of the executive committee for the year 2014-15.
