HYDERABAD:

Around 26 students were arrested and five others suffered injuries during clashes between students and law enforcers at the Sindh University students’ rally on Monday.

The rally, titled ‘Youm-i-Sindhu Desh’, was organised by the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz-student wing, Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF). The JSSF selected the ground in front of the varsity’s arts faculty for the rally. However, several personnel of the police and Rangers, deployed since the morning, prevented the students from gathering at the ground.

Buses carrying JSMM supporters from Hyderabad and parts of Jamshoro were stopped from entering the university. JSMM’s central leader Abdul Hafeez Pirzado accused the law enforcers of taking brutal action against the students. “We had organised a peaceful rally. The action by the police caused violence.”

Two of the JSMM supporters, Shahzad Lashari and Tasaduq Panhwar, have gone missing, claimed Pirzado.

Rangers official Javed Iqbal said the detained students are in police custody. He denied that any of the students have been subjected to enforced disappearance.
