BANNU:

A suspected militant was killed in a police encounter in Ghoriwala, Bannu in the early hours of Sunday.

DSP Headquarters Sanaullah Marwat told The Express Tribune the incident occurred at around 1am when a suspected militant was killed in a police encounter after he hurled multiple hand grenades at them.

The DSP said Ghoriwala police have established a check post on Hamidi Road, adjacent to the tribal areas, when they spotted a man coming towards them on a motorcycle.

He added that the man stopped at a distance and opened fire at the police before hurling three grenades towards the checkpoint.

In return, police officials opened fire, shooting him multiple times.

The DSP said the militant was trying to throw another grenade which exploded in his hand and killed him on the spot.

Marwat said the bomb disposal unit was called to the scene. They found another hand grenade next to the militant’s body. He added that a search operation was launched in nearby areas.

The body was taken to the police station, while the militant’s motorcycle was confiscated. The suspect was identified as Abid, a resident of North Waziristan.
