31,301 members of the party were sent ballots, of which 25,533 members voted in secret balloting, with the majority voting in favour of Sirajul Haq.
JI leadership met at the party’s central office today where the announcement was made. Haq will formally take the oath for his position as party chief on April 7.
Haq is currently the Finance Minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Munawar Hassan and Liaquat Baloch were also running for the position.
May Allah give the strength and forbearance to newly elected Ameer Jamaat e Islami brother Siraj ul Huq.

@Ch. Allah Daad: Chaudhary Sahib, JI is not a political party, but a cult. something like one in john town, which made world news headings for months.
@Ch. Allah Daad... What is your ideology that we should accept?
@saleem hatoum: it does not matter if he was a Pukhtoon or not. Munawar Hussain had his good and bad quality as leader. Way to go Jamat I Islami. Secret Balleting is not a good Idea. 32000 thousand ballots are not much for Jamat E Islami unless these are Basic Democrates from Ayub Khans Style of Political System.
Democracy and JI are two opposite things. After more than 70 years since its creation, JI has gathered only 31 thousand members and have formed a pressure group. People who call JI a democratic party should take lessons about democracy. No doubt they would also call Communist party a democratic party.
Indeed a truly democratic party which enlisted young men as mercenaries to wage jihad across the globe but never asked the children of its own leadership to fight against the infidel!! You can tick hypocrisy as one of the traits of JI as well.
Lets hope he thinks and acts in a progressive manner.......would be good for the party and the country.
May God the creator give grant wisdom to the Ameer to SERVE not COMMAND the interests of the community and uphold the Islamic values.

Congratulation to Siraj Bhae, Allah gives him courage and wisdom to lead the party.
great responsibility on the feeble shoulders of siraj ul haq. but its the majority's decision which has to be accepted. May Allah give him courage and wisdom to run the party's affairs in the best possible way. Party would expect mature thinking and responsible actions from him.
@A-No.1: no he will leave kpk government because according to the constitution of jamat e islami government office and ameer e jamat office will not be run by one person at a time
expaki, since you are an ex paki, so its none of your business.
Democratic election to help undemocratic people like Ziaul haq and monarchies like saudis and etc.
Why are people here so confused about what is democracy? Democratic values do not include supporting extremists. Even a Pakistani layman understands it and does not vote for JI.
Very positive news. All Pakistan poitical parties should follow democratect steps of ji.
perhaps this Mullah might condemn killing of innocents by his brothers in faith. Mullah Siraj how about condemnation of attack on Raza Ahmad Rumi, to start with? an ex Paki
It about time JI leadership is handed back to Pakhtoon members. This Munwar Hussian was not short of embarrassment.
Association with TTP was very appealing to the party electorate, and it paid off. Other than that why not Farid Paracha?
Honest Person and Courage leader.
Munawar Hasan seemed to speak a lot of nonsense - he was truly a let down compared to people like Qazi Hussein Ahmed. Hopefully this new leader can stop the downslide of JI in the eyes of the common man.
He is an anti punjab bigot.
Don't like Jamaat's policies at all - but they're the most democratic of all parties in Pakistan.
"That is the only good thing about JI… they change their heads!" @optimist: They may change their heads but it would make no difference. The party's idology remains the same which majority will never accept.
A truly democratic party. One can say whatever about JI, but they have a democratic party which follows democracy in letter and spirit. May Allah give Siraj Ul Haq the strength needed to develope the party. Ameen
This is a good move....
That is the only good thing about JI... they change their heads!
May all mighty ALLAH give Siraj bhai wisdom, courage and vision to do his job in a best way
