KOHAT:

A suspected suicide bomber was arrested and an explosive vest was recovered from his possession in the Cantonment area of Kohat late on Friday.

Kohat District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Marwat told journalists Cantonment police stopped a passenger van at a check post established for snap checking near Nusrat Khel petrol pump station. A passenger, en route to Kohat from Kurram Agency, was told to step down and was found in possession of a suicide vest.

According to the DPO, the suspected militant, identified as Amjid Noor, a resident of Alizai, Upper Kurram Agency, had worn the vest underneath his shirt. He was then arrested and shifted to the police station.

Marwat said the bomb disposal unit was called in to defuse the explosives, reported to weigh 13 kilogrammes, along with ball bearings, prima cards and two detonators which were all seized.

“It would have been devastating had the jacket exploded,” said Marwat, adding Noor was shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation and a case was registered against him.
