Weapons business: Man, wife arrested for smuggling

Police found eight rifles, 19 pistols, more than 5,000 bullets, 60 magazines and other items worth millions of rupees.

LAHORE: CIA Model Town police on Friday arrested a husband and wife for smuggling illegal weapons from Tribal Areas and recovered a large number of weapons and ammunition hidden in their car.

CIA SP Muhammad Omer Virk received a tip off that Akhtar Nawaz, hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, was bringing a large quantity of weapons from Tribal Areas. A police team headed by Inspector Bashir Niazi set up a check point at Thokar Niaz Baig.

They stopped a car driven by Akhtar Nawaz. His wife and children were also in the car. Police found eight rifles, 19 pistols, more than 5,000 bullets, 60 magazines and other items worth millions of rupees. Police seized the weapons and registered a case against Akhtar Nawaz and his wife.
