Minister for Special Education Asif Saeed Manais on Thursday said the Special Education Department would launch a vocational training programme for teachers of special children.


He was addressing a Punjab Youth Festival prize distribution ceremony at the Town Hall.

He said the Special Education Department would distribute 221 generators among special educational institutions next week. He said that a committee was being set up to provide missing facilities to the institutions.

He said the government was paying special attention to the education and rehabilitation of special children. He said children had helped set several records at the Punjab Youth Festival set international records.

The minister also presented shields to special children, heads and teachers of special education institutions.

Dinner for Qatar team

The Punjab Sports Board hosted a dinner for the Qatar cricket team at the National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday night.

The reception was attended by Minister for Sports and Education Rana Mashhood Khan, Sports Board Director General Usman Anwar, PCB officials Intikhab Alam, Shafiq Ahmad Papa, Mohsin Kamal and Ali Zia.

Singers Waris Baig and Sajjad Taffoo performed at the dinner. He said he hoped that such events would revive international cricket and hockey in Pakistan. He said international sporting events would boost tourism and the economy.  The minister gave souvenirs to the Qatari coach.

World record attempt

Muhammad Sadiq, a barber from Allama Iqbal Town Lahore, has expressed his intention to set the world record of hair cutting using the most number of scissors.

Currently, an Israeli holds the title. He used 10 scissors simultaneously.

Sadiq says he will bring the title to Pakistan using 12 scissors. Sadiq demonstrated his skills at the National Hockey Stadium on Thursday, a video of which was sent to Guinness World Record officials. Sadiq is likely to make his official attempt in April.
