SSGC asked CDA to bat first, but were left to rue their decision as CDA went on to amass 416 all out, thanks to a superb 180-run knock from Riaz laced with two sixes and 22 boundaries. Sohail Khan chipped in with 86 studded with 12 strikes to the fence.
CDA’s cause was also helped by dropped catches.
“We weren’t just good enough on the day which allowed CDA to build up a huge total,” an SSGC player told The Express Tribune.
“I think the idea to bowl first on what looked like a good batting track went horribly wrong for us.”
The player added that crucial chances were missed which allowed Riaz and others to score runs freely.
Two of SSGC bowlers conceded over 100 runs for their single scalps as Nasir Malik and Mohammad gave away 109 runs each.
In reply, SSGC had scored 19 for no loss when the day ended, trailing by a tall order of 397 runs.
The winner of the match will qualify for next season’s first-class tournament which remains a big incentive for SSGC, according to the player.
“We’re down but not out of this game. First-class cricket is a big incentive that will inspire us to bounce back in style despite a huge score in front of us. We’ve got players who can score quickly.”
