Protest: Jamiat members block Canal Road

Dozens of Islami Jamiat Talba activists on Wednesday blocked Canal Road to protest against police for not registering an FIR against the Punjab University guards. A police team fired teargas shells at them. The protestors threw stones at the police. Police baton charged the protestors and arrested 12 people. Ealier, Jamiat Nazim Abdul Muqeet had addressed a press conference at the Punjab University hostel, saying the police and the city government were persecuting Islami Jamiat Talba activists for not sharing their political views. He said if the police did not register a complaint against the Punjab University guards, Islami Jamiat Talba would protest all night. Allama Iqbal Town Police Superintendent Syed Tauseef Haider said no FIR had been lodged against the detained Islami Jamiat Talba activists so far. He said no one would be allowed to break the law.
