The Faisalabad Airport Upgradation Committee has recommended that the government should immediately undertake the project from its own resources instead of taking it on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis.
The committee met on Saturday at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), headed by Parliamentary Finance Secretary Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan.
FCCI President Engineer Suhail bin Rashid said that, according to conservative estimates, Rs8 billion was required for upgrading the airport.
“It is imperative to expand and upgrade the airport since, at present, more than 3,000 foreigners are in the region in various capacities with regular foreign visits. This is owing to the thriving export and import industry in the city.”
The upgraded airport would cater to the cargo and passenger needs for the next 20-25 years.

@realitycheck: Respected Sir,
Have to ever visited Faisalabad or have the knowledge of business volume based in this city. I am very sorry to highlight here that your comment is quite biased. I think Airport at FSD should be upgraded and if their is need for expansion of Jinnah it should also be upgraded. PPL from fsd has to take international passenger flights/uplifting of air cargo shipments from other cities.
I urge one should take into consideration the facts before making such comments.
about 40 % of passengers for international flights belongs to faisalabad. they have to use lahore and islamabad airport that takes a whole day and spend lot of money from faisalabad to approach lhr and isl airport. so we need immediate an international airport for our beloved city to save the time and money. thanks . God bless u.......
I don't understand why they want to upgrade an airport where even local players have pulled out (Shaheen and Air Blue). No need to waste tax payers money on something that is NOT required instead upgrade the bread earner for CAA i.e. Jinnah International.
