With reference to his interview published in The Express Tribune on March 20, Sandeep K Paul, the deputy spokesperson at the United States Embassy, Islamabad, said that the interview was on US assistance to Pakistan in the energy, trade, agriculture, education, and health sectors. The article’s headline read, “US says talks under way on civil nuclear technology” but Paul claimed that he had actually said that Pakistan has shared its views, including its desire for civil nuclear cooperation, with the United States. He said that at the last round of expert-level security and non-proliferation talks in Washington DC last year, the US and Pakistan had had a productive exchange of views on a host of issues including, but not limited to, peaceful applications of nuclear energy.
