Zardari reconstitutes National Economic Council

ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Ali Zardari has reconstituted the National Economic Council today (Wednesday). The move follows the guidelines laid out in the 18th Amendment.

The NEC will comprise of 15 members who will guide the government in taking key economic decisions.

According to Article 156 (2), the NEC:

“shall review the overall economic condition of the country and shall, for advising the Federal and Provincial Governments, formulate plans in respect of financial, commercial, social and economic policies.”

Zardari consulted prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in taking the decision to reconstitute the Council. Chief minister and chief secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan and other government officials were also consulted before the go-ahead for the NEC was issued.

HAMID SULTAN DAWOODI | 14 years ago | Reply It is a matter of serious dilemma that government is ruling the economy through “Lip Service” only. In 21st century the economic issues require high education and prolonged experience to resolve the constraints. It is the bad fate for Pakistan Peoples Party that in their every tenure they failed on economic matters having no brain on this subject in their party. Dr. Mubashar Hassan a founder member of PPP who remained finance minister with Shaheed Zulifqar Ali Bhutto cabinet rightly say that PPP always default in his strategic planning to overcome with the promises made with their voters, in his own words “one day Bhutto asked me Dr. I was thinking that on my one palm feudal are standing and on other my Awam and I will get money from one hand to deliver other, but in practical my failure stand in these words, that feudal given nothing to me and I could not deliver any thing to my Awam “. People Party came in power again and again where the commitment is made every time with voters Roti, Kupra, Mukan stands? Last and final words when all matters are decided by President under hidden motives what will the council will do? Our honorable courts could not resolve the issues of Sugar, Cement cartel, higher prices of petroleum products, how this council would be successful. We are not living in a country, we are living in Jungle (forest) where nothing depend upon education and social existence. We can only say “God bless our homeland” and give this thinking to our voters to decided on bad and good while using their balloting right.
