Oath-taking: Female journalists form union

KARACHI: The female journalists affiliated with different media organisations have formed the Association of Women Journalists (AWJ) to raise their issues separately. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Karachi Press Club on Tuesday. Pakistan Peoples Party’s Sharmila Farooqi, Muttahida Qaumi Movements’s Saman Jaffery, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s Mehtab Akbar Rashidi and Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Seema Zia and Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz’s Surath Thebo assured the journalists of their full support. Durdana Shahab became the first president of the AWJ with Shamim Bano as the general secretary.
