The Ramna police arrested three robbers on Sunday night as they were trying to escape after looting a house in the capital.
The robbers had broken in to a house in Street 10, Sector G-11/3 and snatched cash, jewellery and a laptop. After the robbers left the house, inmate Suleman Mansoor alerted Rescue 15, according to the police.
The Ramna police responded with uncharacteristic efficiency to cordon off the area and found the suspected robbers near a seasonal stream in the area.
According to the police, the suspected robbers opened fire on the police, to which the police responded with retaliatory fire and overpowered them after a brief encounter. One of the suspects was injured and escaped from the scene. Two others, Shehzad Arif and Rashid, were arrested by police.
Later, the police said they also arrested the injured accomplice, Imran, from the District Headquarters Hospital in Rawalpindi.
Saddar Superintendent of Police Muhammad Ilyas, who was recently transferred to his current position, said Arif and Rashid are originally from Zafarwal in Narowal, while Imran is from Taxila and was already wanted by the police for robberies and a murder.
The Ramna police registered a case and started interrogating the robbers. They also recovered the valuables stolen by the robbers from the G-11/3 house.
