The government on Monday moved an amendment bill for the K-P Local Government (LG) Act, 2013 to accommodate changes to a number of seats in Kohistan, Nowshera and Upper Dir over administrative issues.

Under the K-P LG Amendment Bill, 2014, the number of local government seats in Upper Dir will be increased from 47 to 48, while seats in Kohistan will be divided between Kohistan and Lower Kohistan. Kohistan district had a total of 58 LG seats under the law, however, after the creation of a new district Kohistan will have 25 and Lower Kohistan 37 seats.

Also, seats for Nowshera tehsil will go down to 30 from 49 after Jehangira tehsil is carved out of it; the latter will have 19 seats.

Moreover, the number of seats in Upper Dir has been increased to 20 from 19 under the act.
