International Scientific Spring ends with message to follow in Dr Salam’s footsteps.

ISLAMABAD:

Constructive science can help resolve many difficulties facing humankind and Pakistan should collaborate more with foreign experts in the field of science, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Executive Director Mukhtar Ahmad said on Friday.

Ahmad was speaking at the closing ceremony of the International Scientific Spring (ISS) 2014 conference organised by the National Centre for Physics (NCP) in collaboration with the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy.

Ahmad said “since its inception, the HEC has been committed to provide opportunities for Pakistani youth. Its commitment has enabled seven of its universities to be ranked in the world’s top 300.”

The five-day event featured 350 Pakistani researchers and more than 25 foreign experts. The conference focused on core areas of physics and associated fields such as nano-sciences.

Dr Joseph Niemela urged the young scientists to follow the footsteps of Pakistani Nobel laureate Dr Abdus Salam. Niemela said Salam worked for the promotion of science in the developing world and devoted himself to work for the whole scientific community, not just his own country.
