Nurses at three major hospitals of the city stopped work on Saturday in support of their protesting counterparts in Lahore who were arrested and thrashed by the police on Friday.
Under the banner of the Nursing Association of Peshawar (NAP), they stopped work for an hour at Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex in protest.
Talking to The Express Tribune, NAP President Farukh Jalil said nurses at the three main hospitals of the city stayed away from their duties for an hour and observed a token protest to support their colleagues in Lahore. He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government has promised nurses they would fulfil all their demands, including a service structure, but till now they have not received any positive response from the government.
Once again, nurses have given a two-week deadline to the government. According to Jalil, if their demands are not fulfilled, they will boycott their duties and take to the streets, similar to what happened in Lahore.
