RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi police arrested four suspected terrorists during a joint operation from two different localities on Wednesday.

On a tip-off, a joint team of police and the elite force conducted raids on houses in Ganjmandi and Chaklala and arrested four suspects. The police also recovered hate material, fake press cards of different media organisations and video recordings of their fight against the army.

“They would search for youths to convince them to join their organisation,” said a senior police officer, wishing not to be named. He said that stacks of letter pads of a terrorist organisation, weapons and Pakistani currency were also recovered from them.

“Working in the guise of a media person is an easy and effective way to access and convince the youth to change their mindset,” the officer said.

The arrested suspects were identified as Muhammad Khalil Anjum, Tayyab Mehmood Abbasi, Muhammad Bilal while the name of the fourth suspect could not be confirmed. They are residents of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar, according to the police.
