Reforms: Call for review of education system

Dean suggested steps should be taken which may lead to the improvement of the educational system

Participants of a two-day conference have recommended setting up of a body comprised of clerics and education experts to formulate a relevant education system, said a press release.


Adding on, State Minister for Education Baleeghur Rehman said the government desires to formulate an educational system which would be a combination of religious and contemporary knowledge.

He expressed these views while addressing the concluding ceremony of a two-day conference on religious education in Pakistan which suggested in its recommendations that a council of Ulema and education experts should be formulated to review the prevailing educational system.

The two-day moot was organised by Faculty of Usuluddin of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) where 34 papers by religious scholars and education experts were presented.

Rehman said country requires an education system which should be an amalgamation of contemporary and religious knowledge while stressing upon scholars to play an active role in the promotion of harmony and patience in society.

He said all the provincial ministers have assured that they would formulate a comprehensive educational system and implement all the recommendations which would be given by the government.

Recommendations of the conference, which were presented by Usuluddin dean Dr Haroonur Rashid suggested that with the cooperation of religious institutions and universities, steps should be taken which may lead to the improvement of the educational system in the country.
