FAISALABAD: Hundreds of traders on Sunday staged a protest demonstration against an anti-encroachment drive by the Lyallpur Town Municipal Administration (TMA).

Speaking on the occasion, Faisalabad Anjuman-i-Tajiran president Shahid Razzaq Sikka said some TMA staff were carrying out an ‘anti-encroachment drive’ in downtown Faisalabad only to make money from shopkeepers.

“The officials are openly demanding bribes… no action is taken against the shops of those who agree to pay the bribe.”

The protest ended when MNA Mian Abdul Manan and the district coordination officer assured the protestors that the matter would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
