IED attack: Political agent, 3 others wounded in Hangu blast

Four officials of the Kurram Agency’s political administration, including the political agent, were injured when their vehicle was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED). The explosion took place on Thursday afternoon in the Tor Ghar area of Thall Tehsil in Hangu.


District Police Officer Iftikhar Ahmad said Kurram Agency Political Agent Riaz Mehsud, Assistant Political Agent Lower Kurram Fazal Qadir and Assistant Political Agent Central Kurram and Political Tehsildar Lower Kurram Naeem Toro were headed to Peshawar from Kurram Agency via Hangu when the attack took place.

The DPO said the officials were wounded and their vehicle was completely damaged. The injured were taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Thall, where they were found to be in stable condition and later discharged.

Security officials launched a search operation in the area; no arrests were made till the filing of this report. Officials of the bomb disposal squad said around 15 kilogrammes of explosives were used in the attack.

Speaking with The Express Tribune, Riaz Mehsud said he sustained minor injuries and will continue his struggle to establish peace in the area. He was appointed the political agent of Kurram Agency six months ago.
