KARACHI:

The fate of around 59 per cent of the 1,887 suspected criminals arrested by the Ranges in the targeted operation in September last year, has yet to be decided by the courts, said Rangers’ spokesperson on Thursday.

He claimed that at least 126 target killers, 181 extortionists, 12 high-profile militants and 18 kidnappers were amongst those who were booked in a total of 1,839 targeted raids from September 5, 2013, when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the city in a bid to devise a strategy to curb violence.

As many as 78 criminals were killed in encounters with the law enforcers while six Rangers personnel also embraced martyrdom, added the spokesperson.

The weapons confiscated during the raids amounted to 3,236 in number.

Meanwhile, 80 more suspected criminals were arrested from various parts of the city by the paramilitary force in its continuing raids on Thursday.
