Urea import: ‘No decision on transfer of control’

MOIP is entrusted with responsibility of timely purchase & smooth distribution of imported urea throughout country.

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Industries and Production (MOIP) has said that the government has not taken any decision to transfer the responsibility of import or distribution of urea to the Ministry of Food Security and Research. Currently, there is no change in the status of distribution of work and the MOIP is entrusted with the responsibility of need assessment, timely purchase and smooth distribution of imported urea throughout the country. As per the distribution of work issued by the Cabinet Division, the MOIP, among other things, is responsible for keeping a watch, from national angle, over general price trends and supply position of essential commodities; price and distribution control over items to be distributed by statutory orders between provinces. Urea falls within this category and the MOIP regulates its prices through demand and supply chain management.
