LAHORE:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab president Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said on Monday that the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had called a month-long ceasefire to gain breathing space and reorganise.

Wattoo said the TTP’s ceasefire was a result of army’s preemptive strikes on terrorists’ hideouts.

He said the government should stop pursuing a “policy of appeasement” towards the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan .

Wattoo said the “cowardly” attack by terrorists at the Islamabad district courts on Monday would not weaken the nation’s resolve rather “strengthen it in defeating those trying to impose an agenda that belonged in the dark ages.”

The PPP leader said former president Asif Ali Zardari and party chairman Bilalwal Bhutto Zardari believed that the Taliban only understood the language of force.

He said the PPP continued to support the government’s decisions because the country needed a consensus on the issue.
