Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak has said yes to setting up a Special Traffic Police for Peshawar — similar to the National Highway and Motorway police.

This development is part of the Green, Clean and Safe City master plan. The K-P government has decided to reorganise the existing traffic police of the city to help fix traffic problems faced by citizens.

The CM formally approved a summary presented to him, which in effect enables reorganising the current traffic police. A fund of Rs581.6 million was also approved for the purpose.  According to the plan, 900 new and educated officers will be inducted into Peshawar’s traffic police force. They will be trained and equipped with vehicles and weapons.

Traffic wardens will be operating on Ring Road, Charsadda Road, Warsak Road, Nasir Bagh Road, Regi and Hayatabad round the clock to facilitate the public and ensure a smooth flow of traffic all over the city.

Khattak also approved plans for the establishment of two independent institutions – the School of Traffic Management and the Traffic Engineering Department. The school will train officers in traffic management.
