LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday adjourned till April 7 the hearing of a petition moved by former president Rafiq Tarar seeking retirement benefits. Justice Ijazul Ahsan asked the counsel for the government and the petitioner to combine their arguments at the next hearing. Earlier, a deputy attorney general told the court that the previous government had sent a summary to former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf for provision of retirement benefits to Tarar but no reply had been received. The judge asked the deputy attorney general to inform the court about the details of the summary. Tarar had told the court that General (r) Pervez Musharraf removed him from the presidency after toppling the government of Nawaz Sharif in 1999. He said he was entitled to a pension and other retirement benefits of being a former president of Pakistan. He asked to the court to direct the government to start paying him the pension and the benefits that he was entitled to.
