KARACHI: Deputy chief of the Punjabi Taliban Saeedul Islam was arrested during a raid in Orangi Town, Karachi on Monday, Express News reported.

During a media briefing, SSP Farooq Awan stated that Islam was arrested on the charges of kidnapping, extortion and robbery.

He stated that Islam will shortly be questioned about other members of the Punjabi Taliban.

The arrest of the deputy chief was a part of the ongoing Karachi operation that aims to arrest terrorists and criminals operating within the city.

The targeted operation started in Karachi after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the metropolitan in September last year in a bid to devise a strategy to curb violence.

With the provincial government on board, the prime minister had given a go-ahead to the paramilitary force to conduct raids and arrest criminals with the help of the police. Subsequently, the operation began on September 7.

US CENTCOM | 10 years ago | Reply We fully support the government of Pakistan in their efforts to restore peace in the country. We are working closely with the government of Pakistan, as evident by the recent meeting US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander General Lloyd J Austin and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, for the betterment of the region. Those who pose a risk to the security of our nations must be dealt with accordingly. Our common sacrifices on both sides of the border clarify our stance against terrorism, and we will not bow down to those who threaten the safety of our nations. Pakistan’s security and stability is simply vital to the region’s security and stability. It is our wish and desire to see a safe and secure Pakistan. We hope to remain in a healthy working relationship, and have full confidence in Pakistan government’s ability to negate the threat of violence in the country.
