Narcotics case: Two drug peddlers jailed

Police said 8 kilograms opium seized from Wajid, 2kg seized from Ahmed.

KARACHI: An anti-narcotics court sent on Friday a rickshaw driver and his accomplice to jail in a drug trafficking case.

The court found the rickshaw driver, Munir Ahmed, and a passenger travelling in the rickshaw, Muhammad Wajid, guilty of carrying 10 kilogrammes of opium in SITE area in 2011.

According to the police, eight kilogrammes opium was seized from Wajid while 2kg was seized from Ahmed during snap checking on November 19, 2011.

Judge Sanaullah Khan Ghory of the Special Court for Control of Narcotic Substances-II sentenced Wajid to 10 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs14,000 on him.

In case of non-payment, he would have to undergo an additional seven and a half months imprisonment. Ahmed was sentenced to four years in prison with a fine of Rs8,000 and in case of non-payment he would have to suffer an additional five and a half months imprisonment.

An FIR, No.589/11, under Section 6/9-C of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997, was registered against them at SITE “A” police station.
