Celebrating Diversity: World mother tongue day today
People are encouraged to read books, texts and poems in their local language in public.
ISLAMABAD:
The UN International Mother Language Day (IMLD) annually celebrates language diversity and variety worldwide on February 21, a statement said on Thursday. “Local languages for global citizenship: spotlight on science,” is the theme for IMLD 2014. People are encouraged to read books, texts and poems in their local language in public. This may raise awareness for all the Mother Languages in the world. Unesco and other UN agencies participate in events on IMLD that promote linguistic and cultural diversity. They also encourage people to learn their mother language while using more than one language.
